Funny Boys

Things feel like they've gotten into a rhythm with school and our little activities. Justin is done with his play at Centerpoint Theater (more on that later), so now we're just enjoying the weather cooling off and Halloween being around the corner.A few weeks ago there was a pretty big fire on the mountain right up our street. It was a night that Bridget had the flu and Justin was at the play, but it felt pretty eventful! The city called people with land lines to be prepared to evacuate so we were all ready to go and when Rachel couldn't fall asleep because of the sirens we just headed out to Farmington for the night. It was surprisingly not smokey and they did a great job getting it extinguished before it reached any homes.
Ian is a funny kid. Even though it appears that he is not listening most of the time he really soaks things up and makes some serious plans. This month in their church classes they were talking about missionaries and one day he said, "Mom you need to teach me how to sew and cook because you're not going to be with me on my mission!" It wasn't just a one-time comment, he really wants to learn these things. The next day he told Bridget he needed to do a lemonade stand to earn money because missions are expensive! How could we pass up that one? Ian's lemonade stand was quite successful in raking in $2 (mostly from his Uncle Parker and a great neighbor family) and giving lots of free drinks to thirsty kids on their way home from school.
Rachel had to do a poster about herself for school and it turned out great.
Another one of Ian's "projects" was making his own Yoshi-pet. He made this beauty out of paper and was delighted with the result.
Justin had a ton of fun in Anything Goes at the new Centerville theater, Centerpoint. He just had some smaller parts, but he had tons of fun with his funny counterpart Spencer and other great cast members. Here they are before heading out for one of their finest moments...

Ian's second round of soccer has come to an end and he has determined that he doesn't want to play again. He says he wants to play every other sport, especially baseball, so we'll see what happens. He enjoyed the games and had fun goofing around with the other kids, but him and his team-mates were often lounging around the field.

Ian saw an idea of making a newspaper and would not rest until it was completed. Bridget drew the squares and he came up with some hilarious pictures and dictated "news stories".
In this part it's showing how when Ian was a baby he loved to eat sweet potatoes, how he loves to drink apple juice, that he's started his new computer preschool, and that he helps Rachel balance on her roller skates.
The other stories are about us making salsa, Rachel jump roping, and Daddy in the play "100 times". The best story is about Josie and says, "We got a new baby named Josie and she's really annoying and she says 'go away' and she's mean because she doesn't get much sleep." Bridget couldn't convince him to change it to something nicer. Maybe it shows journalistic integrity?
Ian's preschool teacher, Miss Cynthia, does darling things with the kids and Bridget got to help on a day they went on a "teddy bear picnic". Here are some of the kids enjoying their snacks.

The whole class together. Ian was the "star" that day and got to do a special show and tell and be the line leader. Preschool heaven.
Conference weekend was so relaxing and uplifting. We totally lounged in our pajamas (as evidenced by these pictures) and enjoyed being together and learning. In between on Saturday Ian found this dragon fly and the kids were fascinated.
