A flood of fun for Ian's 1st birthday!

Can you believe our baby is already 1? Ian's birthday fell on Saturday this year and we had a great time celebrating. We started the day planting tons of flowers and enjoying being outside. Ian found one of his favorite spots to sit - on Grandma's lap.
Rachel was probably a little more excited than Ian about the actual opening presents part, but he loved his gifts once they were out.
Here she is running to get the birthday boy the next one.
One of the really exciting things was this cute tractor from Grandma and Grandpa. It has been a major hit with both kids!How cute is this cake? Bridget has officially given cake-making duties to Suzy because she does an absolutely fantastic job. And, it ends up being a much less stressful day when someone else is making an adorable cake. Thanks Grandma!

We tried to get a picture of the birthday boy with his cake, but he was just wanting to dive right in.
But, when we actually got a piece in front on him he would have nothing to do with actually eating! Our poor boy was a tad under the weather, so I guess trying something new just didn't sound appealing. He did enjoy a plethora of barbecue food, so hopefully he still had fun. Maybe one day we'll get a 1-year-old who wants to try their cake!
So, even though the cake wasn't eaten, he did have fun with his toys and we can't believe how big he's getting. A year goes by really fast when you have kids growing up so quickly!
To round off the busy day, a pipe for secondary water broke under the driveway. The Lee's huge driveway was totally flooded and so along with 4 neighbors, we all swept (with large push brooms) the water over to the park path. We got a serious workout pushing water for over an hour until they were able to come and turn it off. Luckily, Rob caught the water in time or most of our worldly possessions which are being housed in their garage would have been flooded. Only a little bit of water got into the basement, so it was a huge relief overall!
Our very own sinkhole created by the broken pipe. It was definitely an exciting way to end the day, but hopefully next year Ian can celebrate without the flood.
